The city of Atlanta is officially celebrating “Ciara Day,” and there’s a good reason why. On July 28, Grammy-winning artist and Atlanta native Ciara returned to her hometown to give back in a major way by opening a brand new dance studio for kids.

The studio, which is located at the John H. Harland Boys & Girls Club in Atlanta’s West End community, is the first Why Not You Foundation Center in the city. Ciara and her husband, Russell Wilson, founded the nonprofit, and this new space is a significant addition to the community. The studio is a hub for creativity and self-expression, equipped with state-of-the-art sound and lighting systems.

“Dance has always been about self-expression for me,” Ciara said at the opening. “It gives you energy, confidence, and helps connect people.”

The date, July 28, is also officially recognized as “Ciara Day” by the city of Atlanta, as proclaimed in 2023. The honor was bestowed upon her after she sold over 1 million copies of her groundbreaking debut album, Goodies.

Ciara’s journey from a young girl with limited resources to a global superstar is a testament to her resilience and determination. “Atlanta gave me so much when I was starting,” she said. “That’s why it’s so important for me to give back.”

Before leaving the event, she left the young dancers with powerful words of encouragement: “Believe in yourself. Keep moving, keep reaching. You can accomplish anything. Just start with one step.” Her words resonated with the audience, leaving them feeling motivated and empowered.

Ciara celebrated the special occasion on X, writing, “What an incredible moment launching our Why Not You Center/Dance Hall in partnership with our @WhyNotYouFDN and the @bgcmatl! Thank you to the State and City for officially declaring July 28, CIARA DAY. It’s my mission to continually make this a day of impact! Every child deserves a space to dream, create, and be seen. And this is just the beginning. @DangeRussWilson, we’re doing it! Atlanta, THANK YOU! #WhyNotYou”

With billions of streams, over 23 million records sold, and a successful business portfolio, Ciara’s new dance studio is a beautiful full-circle moment and a symbol of her continued commitment to giving back to her community.
