Yung Miami and JT, in a mutual decision, agreed to part ways from City Girls to focus on their individual projects.
Miami clarified that it made the most sense to record separately because she and JT weren’t connecting as much as they had when their most recent album, “RAW,” was released in October.
“I think when the City Girls album just dropped, and it didn’t do too well, and we were just trying to do our press run, the whole rollout of the album was just so bad because we were just in two different spaces,” she said in an interview with Complex.
“She on the West Coast, I’m in Miami. I’m doing my own thing. And I felt like naturally, when she doing her own thing, it just worked for her. And when I was doing my own thing, it worked for me. But when we got together as a group, it just wasn’t connecting. It just wasn’t working anymore. So I think we both were at a point where we were just like, ‘We probably should just do our own s**t.'”
On Monday, April 8, JT and Yung Miami were deeply involved in a contentious social media spat.
Miami publicly chastised JT on X in a series of tweets directed at her bandmate for subtly criticizing her on solo songs like “No Bars” and “Sideways.”
“For you to come on here and try to play [the] victim is crazy! Jatavia, you [have] been sneak-dissing me for the LAST COUPLE OF DAYS. “”Haven’t said s–t back to you! You made two whole songs DISSING ME, and I STILL RAPPED your s–t with my chest and showed love, so what real problem here?” Yung Miami wrote at that time.
JT said Miami was “losing it” and trying to get attention.
“Oh wow, you’re really losing it,” she wrote. “If you thought this, why not speak to me about it? You came on here and said, ‘LOL,’ so [people] can ask you why you weren’t defending me… ATTENTION seeking as usual. Are you looking for a way out of your situation? Who was the first person to call you when it all started? You’re a sad f—-g case!”
The City Girls last released a project in October that included Usher, Muni Long, Lil Durk, Juicy J, and other celebrities. Regretfully, the album debuted on the Billboard 200 at a pitiful No. 117.
Since then, JT has put much effort into her solo career, releasing songs like the previously mentioned “Sideways” and the more recent “Alter Ego” with Doechii. Her first-ever solo tour began in Houston last month, and she has Miami, New York City, and other cities on her itinerary.
