Claressa Shields, two-time Olympic gold medalist and reigning undisputed boxing champion, made it clear that she’d gladly step into the ring with Jake Paul.
The buzz started when Most Valuable Promotions (MVP), Jake Paul’s promotional company, announced the cancellation of his much-anticipated exhibition match against Gervonta Davis. Set for November 14 in Miami and expected to stream on Netflix, the fight was called off after Davis faced a new domestic violence lawsuit. MVP quickly reassured ticket holders that they would receive refunds and hinted that a new opponent for Paul might be announced soon.
As expected, fans began to speculate on potential replacements, and when an online list appeared, Shields was listed as the eighth option. The only woman included.
When a fan on X (formerly Twitter) directly inquired if she would take the fight, Shields didn’t think twice before responding. User @RPopBox asked, “Would you take the fight?” to which Shields replied, “Yes, I would.”
This simple response set social media ablaze, with fans both shocked and excited at the prospect of watching the undefeated women’s boxing champion face off against one of the most talked-about figures in the sport.
If you’ve been following Claressa, this confidence isn’t new. Back in December, she expressed her belief that she could defeat Jake Paul. Despite Paul’s attention-grabbing record and his notable exhibition victories, including one against Mike Tyson, Shields has maintained that her skills, experience, and championship credentials far surpass Paul’s flashiness.
To date, Jake Paul hasn’t responded to her challenges. Neither the one from last year nor this latest one. But if he’s still seeking an opponent, the opportunity is right there.
