With Election Day set for March 3, U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett is intensifying her push for voter turnout as a new poll shows her holding a significant lead in the Texas Democratic U.S. Senate primary.

Speaking to supporters, the Dallas lawmaker stressed the power of individual votes, pointing to her own narrow victory in a past state House race.

“I stand here before you as a testament of what a vote — a single vote — can do,” Crockett said, noting that just 90 votes once determined her political future. “Margins matter, so every single vote counts.”

She urged voters to mobilize friends and family through social networks and group chats, stressing that participation cannot be taken for granted.

“Do not assume that anyone is going to just go out and vote,” she said. “The great equalizer is the ballot box — whether you’re Elon Musk or an unhoused person, your vote counts the same.”

Poll Shows Strong Position

A new survey from the University of Texas’ Texas Politics Project found Crockett leading state Rep. James Talarico 56% to 44% among likely Democratic primary voters.

The poll, conducted from Feb. 2 to Feb. 16 among 369 voters, has a margin of error of plus or minus 5.1 percentage points.

Crockett showed overwhelming strength among Black voters, securing 87% support, and also led among seniors and voters without a college degree. Talarico held a slight edge among white voters, while Hispanic voter support was nearly evenly split.

The results mirror a late-January survey by the University of Houston’s Hobby School of Public Affairs, which also showed Crockett ahead by single digits.

Republican Race Remains Tight

On the Republican side, the same University of Texas poll found a close contest between Attorney General Ken Paxton and U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, with neither reaching the threshold needed to avoid a runoff. U.S. Rep. Wesley Hunt trailed in third place.

Final Push Before Election Day

As early voting ends, Crockett continues to frame turnout as the decisive factor in the race.

“Assume that no one is going to vote,” she told supporters. “And make sure you tell them to go vote.”
