The death of Daelena Mackay, daughter of Hollywood actor Dwayne Adway, has sparked controversy and anguish as her parents dispute the official ruling of suicide.
Daelena Mackay, aged 20, was reportedly found deceased in her bathroom on May 23, hanging by a scarf. Her boyfriend, who called 911, attempted to revive her but was unsuccessful.
Authorities have maintained that the circumstances and external examination did not warrant an autopsy, a decision that has left her family deeply unsettled.
Dwayne Adway has been vocal about his suspicions regarding the cause of his daughter’s death, accusing the LAPD of reluctance to investigate further.
“They are dead set on staying where they are and not looking more into the case,” Adway told The Post, highlighting broader concerns about the treatment of cases involving Black and Brown individuals in Los Angeles.
Elaine Mackay, Daelena’s mother, has also raised alarms, citing visible injuries on her daughter’s body that she believes were overlooked.
“Her body tells a different story,” Elaine Mackay asserted, mentioning bruises and puncture wounds not mentioned in the initial report.
She disclosed that Daelena had no clinical indicators of depression or suicidal tendencies, having seen a therapist just a day before her death.
Despite requests for a private autopsy, tensions between Daelena’s parents have surfaced over financial constraints.
While Elaine Mackay insists on the necessity of further examination, Dwayne Adway believes additional autopsies are unlikely to alter the current understanding of events.
Daelena Mackay, who was pursuing studies at Los Angeles City College and aspirations in modeling and acting, was described by her family as vibrant and full of life, anticipating upcoming milestones such as her 21st birthday.
As the family continues to seek answers, the LAPD has yet to respond to inquiries regarding the ongoing investigation.
The case remains under scrutiny as loved ones mourn the loss of a promising young woman while striving for clarity and justice in her untimely death.
