Authorities in Delaware and Maryland are investigating a chilling case after the dismembered body of 31-year-old Tracy Nyariki was discovered in the car of a suspect identified as 32-year-old Norbert Matara.
The discovery follows Nyariki’s disappearance from her Newark, Delaware apartment, which left her employer and neighbors concerned.
A Disturbing Discovery
Nyariki, who lived in the 2700 block of Stone Place, was reported missing last Friday after failing to show up for work for several days. Upon visiting her apartment, New Castle County police found concerning evidence that led them to issue an alert regarding her disappearance.
The investigation quickly identified Matara, described as an acquaintance of Nyariki, as a person of interest. Officers tracked his vehicle to Aberdeen, Maryland, where they discovered the dismembered remains of the missing woman inside around 5 p.m. on Saturday. Matara was found nearby and immediately taken into custody.
Community Reactions
Neighbors in Nyariki’s apartment complex are grappling with the tragedy.
“I saw the police here since Saturday, so I just figured it was something regular,” said Nyier Rickes, a resident. “This is just a really sad thing to know about. I hope her family gets peace and understanding.”
Mike Taylor, another neighbor, expressed his shock:
“It’s a very horrific situation. We’re just gonna pray for the family and offer our condolences.”
Suspect Detained
Matara remains in custody at a Maryland holding facility, awaiting extradition to Delaware, where he will face first-degree murder charges.
Investigators have not disclosed the exact nature of Matara’s relationship with Nyariki but confirmed that they were acquaintances.
