Doja Cat clarified her engagement status after fans speculated she might be tying the knot with Stranger Things star Joseph Quinn.
The buzz began when the “Paint the Town Red” rapper was spotted wearing a ring on that finger while performing at the iHeartRadio Music Festival on September 21.
During her performance, she knelt on the ground and offered her left hand to the audience, singing, ‘Rub it in their face, put a rock on her hand.’
Doja Cat and Joseph Quinn, best known for playing Eddie Munson in Netflix’s Stranger Things, reportedly met in May 2022 after a bout of internet flirtation.
Their dalliance started with a now-deleted tweet Doja wrote, “Joseph Quinn is fine as sh–.” One X user then replied, “Doja, look how fine Joseph Quinn is,” to which she responded, “It’s a criminal.”
Netflix’s official Instagram account even shared screenshots of the interaction after the actor liked the first tweet.
Two months later, Doja slid into Joseph’s co-star Noah Schnapp’s DMs with, “Noah, can you tell Joseph to hit me up? Wait, no. Does he have a girlfriend?”
The Stranger Things actor replied, ‘LMAOO slide into his DMs,’ before sharing his Instagram profile with her – and then promptly shared the
whole interaction online.
Unfortunately, this move didn’t sit well with Doja, who then took to Instagram Live to call Noah a ‘snake.’
She said, “The fact that Noah did that, like, went and posted a private conversation between me and him is so unbelievably socially unaware and whack. That’s borderline snake shit, that’s weasel shit. And I’m not saying that encapsulates his entire personality.”
Doja and Joseph’s romance? Everything went silent for the next two years…Until…
In July 2024, Joseph appeared on ‘The Morning Mash Up’ podcast, saying some very nice things about Doja and confirming they were spending time together.
However, relationship rumors really took off in August. The singer was captured resting her head on the actor’s shoulder at Dingwalls in Camden before they were seen holding hands a few days later in London.
The 28-year-old rapper’s sparkling accessory while performing at the iHeartRadio Music Festival led fans to believe that she and Quinn were taking their relationship to the next level.
However, Doja Cat wasted no time in addressing the speculation. She cleared up the confusion by taking to X (formerly Twitter) early Sunday morning. “No, I’m not engaged; it’s a David Yurman ring with no rocks in it,” she tweeted before swiftly deleting the post.
Fans were left in suspense after the now-deleted clarification, but the rapper spoke out again during her performance at the Global Citizen Festival last night. While performing, she playfully addressed the rumors head-on by mouthing “I’m not married” to the crowd while showing off her ring finger and giving it a little wriggle.
Though fans might be disappointed that there’s no engagement just yet, Doja’s playful response shows she’s in no rush to put a ring on it—or not?
