Omarosa Manigault Newman, a former top aide in the Trump administration, made a notable appearance at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago, openly showing support for Vice President Kamala Harris.

Newman, once a prominent figure in Donald Trump’s White House, shared several photos and videos from the event, including one from the opening worship service.

In one post, she is seen purchasing a Kamala Harris 2024 campaign T-shirt, captioning it with:

“Momarosa wanted a cute KHive shirt! Found it! #chicago #mamasaid” on Instagram.

The “KHive” refers to the online community that avidly backs Harris.

Newman’s presence at the DNC is significant, highlighting the growing trend of former Trump officials distancing themselves from the ex-president.

As Trump seeks a second term as the Republican presidential nominee, many of his former allies have refused to endorse him, and some have gone further by actively supporting Democratic candidates or urging voters to consider alternatives.

When asked about Newman’s backing of Harris and the apparent erosion of Trump’s inner circle, a spokesperson for Trump, Steven Cheung, downplayed the significance.

“Nobody knows who these no-names are. They barely did anything in the administration and played insignificant roles,” Cheung told Newsweek via email.

Newman, who first gained fame on Trump’s The Apprentice, was one of his most recognizable aides. Despite being a registered Democrat for over a decade, her close ties with Trump led to her appointment as director of African American outreach during his 2016 campaign.

She later served in the White House as director of communications for the Office of Public Liaison, a role that ended in her highly publicized firing in 2017.

Newman secretly recorded her dismissal by then-Chief of Staff John Kelly, who cited security concerns and warned her of potential legal issues if she did not leave amicably.

The recording was later played on national television, adding fuel to the controversy surrounding her departure.

In 2018, Newman released her tell-all memoir Unhinged: An Insider’s Account of the Trump White House, where she made explosive claims about her time in the administration, including allegations of racist behavior by Trump during their work on The Apprentice.

Newman’s appearance at the DNC and public endorsement of Harris marks yet another chapter in her tumultuous relationship with Trump and her ongoing presence in the political spotlight as the 2024 election season heats up.
