An Atlanta mother was fatally shot in an apparent case of road rage, according to Atlanta Police.

According to reports, the gunman fired shots at 31-year-old Desiree George Tuesday morning in southeast Atlanta. Her family says she was visiting the area for Labor Day when she was gunned down on Browns Mill Road.

“Just losing her to a senseless crime, it’s hard to bear,” Charles George, Desiree’s brother, told FOX 5 Atlanta. “Like grief has just really taken a toll on us this year. I am going to remember her in the light that she was. Positive, uplifting, being a defender, being an awesome mother.”

According to the victim’s brother, Desiree was the mother of two: a 7-year-old son and a 1-year-old daughter.

A witness at the scene said he heard her son crying for help after the shooting took place.

“The child was screaming for help,” the witness said. “I don’t know what the child was screaming help for, but the child was screaming, help, help.”

Shortly before the incident, multiple witnesses say they saw several vehicles circling an apartment complex.

Meanwhile, authorities say all the vehicles involved in the incident were there when police arrived, but they have yet to apprehend any suspects.

Desiree is now the second member of her family to lose her life in the past six months. In March, the victim’s mother, Dalynn George, was killed in a car crash involving a City of College Park truck. The truck’s driver, Donald Jackson, 45, has since been charged with felony homicide by vehicle, felony hit-and-run and misdemeanor reckless driving.

“We continue to suffer losses, and it’s just hard,” Charles said.

Both Desiree’s family and the police are pleading with anyone with information leading to an arrest to contact Atlanta Police at 404-546-6900 or contact the department online here.
