A brazen Florida woman thought she would visit a local Kay Jewelers and ask to see a 10-carat gold necklace. Once it was shown to her, she ran away with it, police say.
Shaneka S. Webb, 37, had visited the jewelry store chain Wednesday shortly after 3 PM when staff there called police to report a robbery.
Upon arrival, employees said Webb asked to see a $6000 10k gold 24″ necklace. Once the employee handed her the necklace, she fled the scene with the necklace in tow.
While officers listened to staff members explain the incident, others surrounded the area in search of the suspect. Police then described her and her vehicle over the radio.
Webb was found shortly after at a parking lot at the Gate gas station located at 2950 Ridge Way, just north of the Eagle Ridge Mall.
When officers attempted to approach Webb, she fled again and crossed HWY 27 into the area of Sunshine Flea Market located at 24200 HWY 27.
She was later apprehended and taken into custody. Police say the stolen necklace was not found when she was detained.
Witnesses were able to identify the suspect, who was booked into the Polk County Jail. She is charged with grand theft, fleeing to elude, and driving while license suspended or revoked (habitual traffic offender).
It was later found that Webb has been in trouble with the law for quite some time, including being involved in previous grand thefts, violent crimes, drug charges and fraud.
Although Webb is in custody, police are still asking anyone with more information about this crime to contact Lake Wales Police Department Detective David Arana at (863) 678-4223 extension 2007.
