The EGOT icon was honored to pay tribute to Whitney Houston during the anniversary special on Sunday night. After an incredible video montage of Houston’s AMA achievements and a stellar introduction from Samuel L. Jackson, Jennifer Hudson took the stage with an air of reverence and grace, performing a medley of some of Houston’s best hits,
Hudson began her set with “I Loves You Porgy,” a song Houston performed at the 1994 American Music Awards, and the high-energy anthem “I’m Every Woman.”
The moment Hudson hit the first note, the audience knew they were in for something special. The emotion in her voice evoked memories of Whitney Houston’s unparalleled talent, reminding everyone why she is still regarded as one of the greatest vocalists of all time.
Other tribute performers include two-time AMA winner Brad Paisley, who honored the late Charley Pride with a rendition of Pride’s “Kiss an Angel Good Mornin'” and his own new single “Truck Still Works” and five-time AMA winner Kane Brown also celebrated the legacy of country music with a cover of Alan Jackson’s “Drive (For Daddy Gene)” and his own chart-topping hit “Miles On It.”
The anniversary celebration featured nostalgic performances and memorable moments. Still, Hudson’s tribute stood out as a powerful reminder of Whitney Houston’s legacy. The audience was visibly moved, with many standing, singing, and crying.
