Jessica Jones and her husband are transforming lives through their nonprofit, Beyond The Chains, which empowers incarcerated individuals to become successful business owners and reintegrate into society.

The initiative provides classes, workshops, financial independence programs, housing assistance, and family counseling, helping formerly incarcerated people regain stability and purpose after their release.

Jessica Jones recently appeared on the podcast What’s Cooking New York City, where she shared the inspiring story of how she and her husband, while he was still incarcerated, started their first business together—Secure Testing Labs, a Black-owned medical lab specializing in DNA and drug testing.

This groundbreaking venture led to them being featured on a Times Square billboard.

“While he was incarcerated, he wanted to help others inside. He said, ‘I was blessed to have you show me a different way, and I want to show them something,'” Jones said.

Motivated by his vision, Jessica went behind the scenes to complete the paperwork for Beyond The Chains, officially launching the nonprofit as a surprise for her husband.

Now, Beyond The Chains is making a significant impact, helping incarcerated men and women start businesses from behind bars.

“I’m just putting in the footwork right now because when he comes home, he’ll be speaking right alongside me,” Jones added.

Beyond The Chains aims to break the cycle of recidivism by fostering financial independence and community reintegration, with a focus on business ownership.

Their services equip incarcerated individuals with the tools and resources they need to succeed upon release, setting them on a path to entrepreneurship and success.
