Acclaimed journalist and political commentator Joy Reid took to social media on Tuesday to express a whirlwind of emotions following the cancellation of her MSNBC show, The ReidOut.
Despite the disappointment, Reid made it clear that she has no regrets about the issues she chose to champion on air.
Reid, known for her unwavering stance on racial justice, democracy, and human rights, fought back tears as she spoke candidly about the weight of losing her platform.
She admitted to feeling anger, hurt, and guilt—especially for the colleagues who worked alongside her. However, above all else, she expressed gratitude.
“Gratitude not just because people would take the time to get on a call like this or to take care of me, but also that my show had value and that…what I was doing had value,” she said, her voice breaking with emotion. “In the end…it mattered.”
Throughout her career, Reid has never shied away from difficult conversations, tackling systemic racism, immigrant rights, democracy, and the constitutional threats facing the nation. She stood firmly in defense of the 1619 Project, called out injustices against Asian Americans, and spoke up for families devastated by state violence.
She also openly condemned attacks on Gaza, insisting that Americans have a right to speak out against human suffering.
Despite the challenges and the end of this chapter in her career, Reid remains steadfast in her convictions.
“I’m not sorry that I stood up for those things,” she declared. “Because those things are of God.”
