R&B icon Ciara has received the ultimate hometown honor: her very own day in Atlanta.

Ciara, the Grammy-winning performer, has won numerous awards in her career, but this one is particularly noteworthy.

The Grammy-winning R&B singer, 38, celebrated the 20th anniversary of her debut album, Goodies, on July 27 at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta during Missy Elliott’s Out of This World Tour stop. During her opening performance, she received multiple multi-platinum certification plaques.

“I will forever cherish moments like this! The 20th anniversary of the Goodies album celebration is right here, on stage, in my hometown of Atlanta! Grateful for each person that’s helped me along the way,” she captioned the video of the event on social media. “ATL is the city that made me!”

Following the second day of Ciara’s performance, Atlanta City Councilman Michael Julian Bond surprised her live on stage. He declared July 28 to be “Ciara Day” in the city, where she started her career in the music business after graduating from high school.

“The Atlanta City Council is pleased to honor Ciara Princess Harris,” Atlanta City Council member Michael Julian Bond said. “She was born in College Park, Georgia, just outside of here. She grew up in Decatur and has sold over 30 million records, 40 million singles, and three platinum albums worldwide.”

“She’s a philanthropist,” the city official continued. “She speaks out on behalf of women’s rights and young girls. She’s a mentor and educator. She puts her money back in the community. So it is our privilege, our pleasure to honor you today with this proclamation. Now, therefore, on behalf of the city council and the City of Atlanta, hereby proclaim this day, July 28, 2024, as Ciara Day.”

Ciara, on stage, shocked to be honored for a second straight night, smiled and laughed as the compliments rained down. A crown was placed on her head, and a proud Jazze Pha applauded along with the rest of the crowd.

Ciara’s impact goes far beyond her number-one singles on the charts. She has greatly influenced popular culture and inspired people all around the world.
