Detroit rapper Kash Doll is setting the record straight: when it comes to the “Doll” moniker in hip-hop, she’s the original, calling out other artists who’ve adopted similar names.
During a recent sit-down on Club Shay Shay with Shannon Sharpe, the “Ice Me Out” rapper didn’t hold back as she addressed the growing number of artists adopting the “Doll” name, reigniting the long-running debate about her being the original.
Host Shannon Sharpe broached the topic, listing off a few names: “Asian Doll, Dream Doll, Cuban Doll, there’s a lot of dolls!” This sparked a passionate response from Kash Doll.
“So think about this,” she began, passionately explaining her frustration. “A person that works so hard, you know I did this. And every time I come on the internet, there’s a list of ‘Who’s the best Doll?’ ‘Who’s the cutest Doll?'”
The rapper continued, expressing how she feels boxed in by the influx of other artists using variations of her name. “I don’t want to be in that conversation. I’ve been doing that. That’s me. That’s my wave. That’s my sh*t. It’s my brand.”
Kash Doll emphasized that when she entered the rap game, she carved out her own lane without borrowing elements from established artists.
“I didn’t come out, Kash Minaj. I didn’t come out Cardi C. I didn’t come out as Old Miami. I didn’t come out Kash The Stallion,” she pointed out, making a playful jab at some of the biggest names in female rap. “Because that’s their name.”
“I’ve been doing this all this time, and a group of girls come out, and now it’s just all these Dolls. The only thing you hear a lot in female rap is ‘Doll.'”
When Shannon bluntly asked, “So you want to be the only Doll?” Kash Doll didn’t hesitate.
“I should have. I am. I just want everybody to change their name. That was my name.”
The “other Dolls” heard Kash Doll’s comments and joined the conversation.
In a shared video, Asian Doll claimed that Kash had conflicts with DreamDoll. She revealed that Kash supposedly never liked DreamDoll and believed that Dream was “attempting to appropriate her rap identity” simply because she transitioned from being a bartender to a rapper.
Asian also noted that Kash never had any issues with her or Cuban. Furthermore, Asian Doll criticized Kash for pretending to be the originator of the Doll movement.
Would you change your rap name if Kash Doll asked you to?
