Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and Rep. Sydney Kamlager-Dove, D-Los Angeles, hosted a significant meeting on Sunday with members of the L.A. County congressional delegation and key local officials to discuss the city’s preparation for the 2028 Summer Olympics and other major global events. The meeting, aimed at fostering federal and local government cooperation, marked an important step in ensuring the city’s success in hosting the 2028 Games, as well as other high-profile events like the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

“As the host of seven major international sporting events over the next decade, including the 2026 World Cup and the 2028 Olympics, Los Angeles will be in the global spotlight,” Kamlager-Dove said. “The success of these events hinges on a coordinated effort, and I’m proud to have co-hosted this briefing to strengthen our federal-local partnership.”

In addition to Kamlager-Dove, the meeting included a range of key officials, such as Kathryn Schloessman, president and CEO of the Los Angeles Sports & Entertainment Commission; Reynold Hoover, CEO of LA28; Stephanie Wiggins, CEO of Metro; and Paul Krekorian, executive director of the Office of Major Events. Their insights provided critical information about how Los Angeles plans to manage the logistics, infrastructure, and resources necessary for these landmark events.

“It’s my goal that the coming world events benefit every part of our city and region,” Mayor Bass said. “Together, we will work to secure the necessary resources to deliver events that are safe, successful, and fiscally responsible while leaving a lasting legacy for future generations.”

In addition to Kamlager-Dove, the meeting was attended by several other members of Congress, including Reps. Judy Chu (D-Pasadena), Gil Cisneros (D-Covina), Laura Friedman (D-Burbank), and Derek Tran (D-Cypress). Their involvement underscores the broad bipartisan commitment to ensuring the success of these global events in Los Angeles, a city poised to shine on the international stage.
