It seems USC basketball sensation Juju Watkins isn’t enough to impress Jayden Daniels’ mother, Regina Jackson.
Regina Jackson is rewriting the playbook on celebrity offspring protection. The internet was buzzing after the Washington Commanders’ 2024 NFL Rookie of the Year and USC basketball phenom JuJu Watkins sparked dating rumors at the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament… only for Jackson to swiftly shut it down by plopping herself between them.
Many speculate that Jayden Daniels’ mother actively prevented any potential connection between the two young athletes.
During Saturday’s tournament game at USC’s Galen Center, cameras captured Jay Daniels, 23, and Juju Watkins, 19, seated side by side, laughing and chatting like old friends. Social media erupted with playful speculation, including “Are we witnessing a star-crossed athlete love story?!” But the romantic fantasy was short-lived.
The next time ESPN panned to the duo, Regina Jackson had inserted herself squarely between her son and the Trojans’ breakout freshman, stone-faced and seemingly on a mission.
The visual instantly went viral, with fans dubbing her “The Guardian of Gridiron Hearts” and joking, “Mama Daniels saw the tweets and said, ‘Not on my watch.'”
This isn’t Jackson’s first rodeo as Jayden’s self-appointed shield. In January, a clip from Amazon’s The Money Game, a docuseries exploring how LSU athletes navigate NIL deals, resurfaced, where Jackson bluntly revealed her top concern about her son’s NFL future: “Girls. Them girls.”
“Some girl out here, she’s got a Jayden Daniels wall, and her mama says, ‘Hey, honey, you’re going to be the one to get’ em,'” Jackson warned in the interview. “I guarantee there’s someone trying to get their hooks into Jayden Daniels. So, thank God he’s got a mama like me because it ain’t happening.”
Her no-nonsense approach has made her both a meme and a polarizing figure. While some applaud her vigilance, others argue her meddling could backfire.
Jayden Daniels, the Commanders’ standout Rookie of the Year, has been gaining attention. While he evades defenders, Regina’s been fending off distractions like she’s on the offensive line during a critical fourth-and-long. From personalized Commander’s jackets to fierce sideline confrontations, she’s the hidden MVP behind his swift ascent.
