Megan Thee Stallion has taken legal action against convicted felon Tory Lanez, filing for a restraining order against the rapper while he serves a 10-year prison sentence for shooting her in the foot in 2020.
Megan Thee Stallion isn’t letting her guard down when it comes to her safety, even as Tory Lanez serves his 10-year prison sentence for the 2020 shooting that shocked the hip-hop world. The “Hot Girl” rapper has officially filed a request for a restraining order against Lanez, alleging years of harassment dating back to 2021.
The latest development comes months after Lanez was convicted in December 2022 for shooting Megan, legally known as Megan Pete, during a heated argument in July 2020. The incident left Megan injured, both physically and emotionally.
Megan Thee Stallion’s legal team has submitted a petition in the Los Angeles Superior Court requesting that the judge stop the Canadian rapper Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, from employing third parties to persist in the online harassment of Megan, known legally as Megan Pete, that he participated in and promoted before his incarceration.
“Even now, while behind bars, Mr. Peterson shows no signs of stopping,” the petition says. “Despite being sentenced to 10 years in prison for shooting Ms. Pete, Mr. Peterson continues to subject her to repeated trauma and re-victimization.”
The document states that bloggers who are supporting Lanez continue to undermine her accusations by making false assertions, such as claiming that the gun and bullet fragments related to the case are unaccounted for. This follows Pete’s lawsuit filed in October against blogger Milagro Gramz, in which he accuses Gramz of intentionally disseminating misinformation on Lanez’s behalf.
That lawsuit was initiated in the Southern District of Florida against Gramz, whose legal name is Milagro Elizabeth Cooper, a well-known content creator. The complaint alleges that Cooper deliberately inflicted emotional distress on Megan Thee Stallion through cyberstalking, disseminating deepfake pornographic material of Pete, and casting doubt on whether she was truly shot.
The petition filed on Tuesday claims that a protective order intended to stop past harassment is no longer valid, labeling this situation a gap and shortcoming in the criminal justice system.
Tory Lanez is currently incarcerated at a prison in rural Tehachapi, California.
