Former First Lady Michelle Obama has once again made it clear—she has no interest in returning to politics.
In a recent appearance on Kylie Kelce’s Not Gonna Lie podcast, Obama reiterated her long-standing position, opening up about the toll political life takes on families, particularly her daughters, Malia (26) and Sasha (23).
“I was so glad when we got out of the White House,” she said, highlighting her relief at stepping away from the constant public scrutiny. “I wanted them to have the freedom of not having the eyes of the world on them.”

She further stressed the sacrifices children make when their parents serve in high-profile government roles.
“The question [about running for office] has been asked and answered,” Obama stated firmly. “It’s never gonna happen.”
The interview, covered by The Jasmine Brand, reignited discussions online, with social media users overwhelmingly supporting Obama’s decision to stay away from the political arena.
Many pointed out the unprecedented challenges she faced as the first Black First Lady, with one commenter stating:
“We don’t know the half of what she dealt with being the first Black family. I can’t even imagine!”
Another user echoed the sentiment, writing:
“The way she never wanted Barack in politics to begin with, then he won and she had to be First Lady. Only to be criticized and misgendered the entire 8 years. Yeah, no.”
While some expressed disappointment that she won’t be making a political bid, others respected her decision.
“Never!!!!!! I ain’t mad at you, Michelle,” one user wrote. Another asked, “Why y’all keep asking her?”
Obama has consistently dismissed speculation about her potential candidacy, reiterating her commitment to supporting causes such as education, health, and leadership development outside of the political sphere.
