NEW YORK — “Love & Hip Hop” star Erica Mena reluctantly made headlines earlier this year when her husband Safaree Samuels tweeted that he did not want to be married to her anymore.
Social media roasted Safaree at the time for putting all of his business on front street — and now his mother is going in on him on the latest episode of the show.
As her son explains the difficulties he and Erica are going through, his mother cuts his excuses short.
“You create problems when you do that. You get upset and you start tweeting. I don’t like that, man. And you know you wasn’t raised like that. You know. You know when it comes down to women, the utmost respect,” Shirley tells him. “When I see stuff like that, it hurts me and I’m embarrassed.”
In February, Safaree tweeted: “I mean this from the bottom of my heart getting married was 1 of my BIGGEST mistakes and it will never happen again.” He continued, “I’m walking away before I End up in jail over some dumb sh*t. Nobody is worth my freedom.”
The couple tied the knot in New Jersey in October 2019 and welcomed their first child Safire in February 2020. After splitting in May, Erica filed for divorce.
According to court documents, Erica says her marriage to Saferee is “irretrievably broken” with “no hope of reconciliation.”
She requested joint legal custody and final decision-making authority, per Entertainment Tonight. She is also asking for physical custody of Safire on a temporary and permanent basis, “with the parties having parenting time as determined in the minor children’s best interests.”
Safaree is asking the judge to order Erica to reimburse $50,000 for damaged property he says she destroyed. He is also considering pursuing felony charges for criminal destruction.
