In a groundbreaking academic achievement, 17-year-old Nigerian student Nafisa Aminu has been named the World’s Best in English Language Skills at the 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals in London, United Kingdom.

Representing Nigeria through Nigerian Tulip International College (NTIC), the Yobe State native triumphed over 20,000 competitors from 69 countries, including native English-speaking nations — a feat that has sparked pride across Nigeria and the African diaspora.

The TeenEagle competition is an internationally recognized contest that tests English proficiency, critical thinking, and communication skills among students worldwide, regardless of whether English is their first language.

Nafisa’s victory not only secured her a place in history but also highlighted the academic brilliance and global potential of African youth, especially young women of color excelling in fields historically dominated by others.

Her family credits her dedication, discipline, and the enabling support of Yobe State’s leadership for the win, acknowledging Governor Mai Mala Buni’s educational initiatives for helping propel students like Nafisa onto the world stage.

Nafisa’s triumph has been celebrated as a symbol of Nigeria’s untapped intellectual capital.

Social media buzzed with pride, with many noting the irony of a young Nigerian excelling in a language that was once imposed during colonial rule, and doing so in the very heart of the United Kingdom.

Calls are mounting for Nafisa to receive state and national honors for her achievement, with advocates urging Nigeria to continue investing in educational infrastructure that nurtures such exceptional talent.

Her win is an inspiration to young Black and Brown girls everywhere!
