Yazmeen Williams, a 31-year-old resident of Kips Bay in Manhattan, was tragically found dead on Saturday, July 5, 2024, her body stuffed in a bag near a pile of garbage awaiting collection by New York City sanitation workers.

Described by her family as a vibrant young woman on the brink of starting a new job at the New York City Housing Authority, Williams had been reported missing before her body was discovered.

The grim find was made when police noticed a man towing a sleeping bag with an electric wheelchair.

As authorities apprehended the man, a growing crowd of local residents became increasingly distraught over the heinous discovery.

Nicole Williams, Yazmeen’s mother, expressed raw anguish at the scene, accusing the man of taking her daughter’s life and calling him “scum.”

Details surrounding the motive and the relationship between Yazmeen Williams and the 55-year-old suspect remain unclear.

Police have confirmed that Williams died from a gunshot wound to the head, although specifics regarding the time and location of the shooting remain under investigation.

“We don’t understand why anyone would harm her,” said Nisha Ramirez, Yazmeen’s aunt, in an interview with PIX11 News. “She was a sweet, kind person who grew up here. This is devastating for our family.”

Yazmeen Williams is survived by her twin brother and an 8-year-old sister, as her family and the community grapple with the tragic loss.

A GoFundMe page titled “Justice for Yazzy” has been established to support funeral expenses and has garnered support from sympathizers looking to honor her memory.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Yazmeen Williams’ death, urging anyone with information to come forward as they seek justice for her and her grieving family.
