Reginae Carter, the 24-year-old daughter of iconic rapper Lil Wayne and TV personality Toya Johnson, recently shared insights about the valuable life lessons she’s learned from her father.
In a conversation with PEOPLE, Reginae shared how her dad has instilled in her the importance of having a thick skin while navigating the entertainment industry.
“My dad taught me a lot about just being in the industry, period,” Carter explained. “With him being in this industry since he was 12 years old, he taught me just to keep a thick skin, always be true to myself, never let anyone tell me what I can and cannot do.”
She emphasized the significance of believing in oneself and being prepared to back up one’s actions and decisions with determination.
“If you put your mind to it, and if you have the back for it, if you’re going to back up whatever you put out in front, you’re good,” she added.
Reginae Carter, an accomplished actress, author and reality TV star, has made appearances in shows like Social Society and starred in the limited series Terror Lake Drive.
She acknowledged that she has faced criticism in the entertainment industry since she was a young child. However, these experiences have only strengthened her resilience, and she doesn’t let negativity affect her.
“I definitely have this tough skin because of all that I’ve been through in this industry, with all the lies, with all the things that I have to hear about my parents,” she said. “And just even my aunts and stuff, this industry I grew up with a lot of people that they talk about and they have these headlines about.”
Carter also underlined how her family’s strong sense of self keeps them grounded and unshaken by negativity. She believes in thinking big and focusing on continuous personal growth rather than setting rigid goals tied to specific ages.
She expressed gratitude for her parents, highlighting her mother’s role in teaching her important life lessons.
“Because I wouldn’t be who I am if it wasn’t for them, if it wasn’t for my mom, humbling me and teaching me class, teaching me how to maneuver around to be an educated, beautiful, young lady,” Carter said.
In preparation for her 25th birthday in November, Reginae Carter joined NYX Professional Makeup for their Halloween campaign, NYX Mon-Stars, a collaboration with Universal Studios that reimagines classic monsters for the modern world.
In this campaign, Carter transformed into a “Mummi Twin” alongside model Sydney Bell, an intricate look that took approximately seven hours to create with the expertise of SFX makeup artist Mimi Choi.
