Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) took direct aim at Elon Musk on the House floor, calling out what she described as his hypocrisy in benefiting from government funds while spreading misinformation.
Armed with a placard referencing “Trump’s Musk-eteers,” Crockett delivered a fiery speech condemning the tech billionaire’s influence and the lack of accountability in government spending.
Crockett’s Heated Criticism of Musk
Crockett accused Musk of boosting conspiracy theories about USAID while continuing to receive substantial government contracts.
She pointed to a recent $300 million federal contract awarded to Musk’s businesses, questioning how someone dependent on government funds could also act as a so-called watchdog of government spending.
“If we want to talk about government welfare, it looks like Elon Musk,” Crockett said, calling out what she sees as a double standard in the scrutiny of government aid recipients.
Misinformation and the Impact on Public Health
Crockett didn’t stop at Musk.
She also called out the spread of disinformation, linking it to real-world consequences, such as the current measles outbreak in Texas.
She blamed vaccine misinformation for putting children’s lives at risk, arguing that online falsehoods are replacing trust in experts.
“There is an outbreak of measles… kids are sick right now with measles that they did not have to have if they just trusted doctors and experts instead of randoms online,” Crockett warned.
A Call for Truth in Government
Crockett concluded her remarks by calling for honesty in policymaking, referencing John 8:32:
“Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
With her impassioned floor speech, Crockett reaffirmed her role as a strong critic of the Trump administration and a vocal advocate against unchecked corporate power and government-backed misinformation.
