Rest in Power Queen! Republican Congresswoman Mia Love Succumbs To Cancer At 49

by Gee NY

Mia Love, the first Black Republican woman elected to the U.S. Congress, has passed away at the age of 49 following a courageous battle with brain cancer.

Love’s family confirmed her passing in a statement on her official X (formerly Twitter) account, expressing their gratitude for her profound impact on their lives.

“With grateful hearts filled to overflowing for the profound influence of Mia on our lives, we want you to know that she passed away peacefully today. She was in her home surrounded by family,” the statement read.

Love, the daughter of Haitian immigrants, made history in 2014 when she was elected to represent Utah’s 4th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives.

A conservative voice in the Republican Party, she served from 2015 to 2019 before transitioning to a role as a CNN political commentator and a guest contributor on ABC’s “The View.”

A Brave Battle Against Cancer

Love was diagnosed with glioblastoma (GBM) in 2022, an aggressive and often fatal form of brain cancer. Despite being given an initial prognosis of 10 to 15 months, she defied the odds, continuing to share messages of hope and resilience.

In May 2024, she made a public appearance on CNN’s “The Lead with Jake Tapper,” where she discussed her treatment at Duke University’s Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center and the role of both faith and science in her journey.

“I was looking for a cure in my faith and in science,” Love said at the time. “Funny thing is, my patriarchal blessing said you will have a long and prosperous life, a rich and rewarding life, so long as you decide to remain in public service.”

As her condition worsened, Love’s daughter, Abigale Love, shared a heartbreaking update on social media, revealing that her mother’s cancer was no longer responding to treatment. The family then shifted their focus to keeping Love comfortable in her final days.

A Legacy of Faith, Service, and Resilience

Beyond her political career, Love was known for her inspirational messages to those facing hardships. In a 2024 Facebook post, she encouraged others to hold on to hope:

“Whether you are facing a cancer diagnosis yourself or fighting a different battle, there is hope! For me, that hope comes from my faith and my family. Every day, I thank God for my life and a family who give that life beauty and meaning.”

Love’s legacy as a barrier-breaking leader will be remembered not only for her time in office but for the resilience, faith, and strength she displayed in the face of adversity.

Her family has asked for privacy as they grieve, promising to share details about funeral services and a public celebration of her life in the coming days.
