Last year, the groom’s father, Mukesh Ambani, acquired the exclusive rights to build Sephora’s presence in India across all channels.
Although some people may think that Rihanna came out of her ‘retirement’ to secure the performance fee bag, others pointed out that her presence at the wedding was a strategic move for Fenty Beauty.
Rihanna’s first concert in eight years at a billionaire’s lavish wedding in India may not have been as spectacular as fans hoped. Many critics have condemned the singer’s lackluster moves and absence of her usual electrifying self on stage.
But there may be more to Rihanna climbing the stage apart from the whopping $6.3 million performance fee she was reportedly paid.
After some digging, it has come to light that the 28-year-old groom’s father just became the owner of Sephora in India, whose US brand carries Rihanna’s beauty line, Fenty Beauty.
The beauty arm of Reliance Retail, owned by Indian billionaire Mukesh Ambani’s conglomerate Reliance Industries, acquired the rights for Sephora India from Arvind Fashions for 990.2 million rupees ($11.89 million) in November 2023.
The buyout gives RRVL exclusive rights to build, enhance, and manage the operations of Sephora’s 26 stores across 13 cities in India.

Mukesh Ambani, chairman of Fortune 500 company Reliance Industries with an estimated net worth of $113 billion, spared no expense in celebrating his son, Anant Ambani’s, wedding to Radhika Merchant.
Radhika Merchant is the daughter of business tycoon Viren A. Merchant and his wife, Shaila Viren Merchant, CEO and Vice Chairman of Encore Healthcare.
The wedding was preceded by a 3-day pre-wedding party. The first day took place in Gujarat, India, featuring a cocktail party themed “An Evening in Everland” which concluded with a private performance from Rihanna.
