It’s been about four months since tennis legend Serena Williams gave birth to her precious baby girl Alexis Olympia and they can both be seen gracing the cover of the February 2018 issue of Vogue. In the issue, the tennis champ opens up about her complications with childbirth, being a new mom, and getting back to the tennis courts.
On the latest cover of Vogue, Williams is pictured with daughter Alexis wearing a red Versace dress and smiling. This picture makes it the first cover for the four-month-old as well as making Vogue history as she is the youngest person to ever be on the cover of the famous magazine.
During the interview, she opened up about having an emergency c-section due to her daughter’s heart rate being incredibly low during her contractions. Williams also explains that even though the surgery went well everything went bad afterward. During her recovery process, she experienced shortness of breath, developed blood clots in her lungs, and how her abdomen was filled with blood due to her coughing from the drip. After experiences those complications she returned home to be put on bed rest for six weeks.
“Sometimes I get really down and feel like, ‘Man, I can’t do this,'” Serena explained about motherhood. “It’s that same negative attitude I have on the court sometimes.”
Most of us only hear about the positive side of childbirth so it was great that Williams opened up about the not so great aspects of giving birth. Even though she endured a rough recovery, the bright side of it was that she delivered a healthy baby girl.
The issue will be on stands next month.
