Shana Everson, a Syracuse-based entrepreneur, is making waves in the beauty and fashion industry with her intricately designed braided wigs.
Since launching her business, Braided by Shana, in 2022, Everson’s unique creations have captivated millions on social media, featuring everything from sports teams to holiday-themed designs.
With 20 years of braiding experience, Everson started designing themed wigs as a way to elevate her Halloween costumes. Her first major hit was a jack-o-lantern wig, which inspired her to create even more elaborate designs.
Now, her work includes sports team wigs—such as the Chicago Bulls, Buffalo Bills, Kansas City Chiefs, and Philadelphia Eagles—along with custom pieces celebrating sororities, national flags, and iconic movie characters like The Grinch, The Joker, and The Leprechaun.
One of her biggest viral moments came when Lady Gaga noticed her Joker-inspired wig, commenting on TikTok, “This is next level.”
Everson, a mother of three who also works full-time at the New York State Office for People With Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD), hopes to attract even more celebrity attention.
“It’s an amazing feeling for people to notice your work,” she said. “I’m hoping I can get the attention of celebrities like Cardi B or Nicki Minaj. Might even be on the big screen.”
Her braided hat wigs start at $150-$180, while custom designs begin at $300. Each wig takes between three days to several weeks to complete.
