Jamaican music icons Shenseea and Spice are using their influence to call for prayers, unity, and resilience in the face of Hurricane Melissa.

This storm, one of the most powerful in Caribbean history, struck Jamaica on October 28, 2025, unleashing devastating winds, severe flooding, and landslides that left many communities submerged and much of the island without electricity. The hurricane has already taken at least eight lives in Jamaica, with a larger toll impacting Haiti, Cuba, and the Dominican Republic.

As heartbreaking images of destruction spread across social media, both artists took to their platforms to express their concerns.

On October 27, just before the hurricane made landfall, Shenseea shared a sincere message with her vast following. “Pray for Jamaica,” she urged, sharing her heavy heart as the island prepared for the storm. She encouraged her fellow Jamaicans to “stay inside, check on your neighbors, and protect each other,” highlighting the nation’s remarkable resilience. Her followers responded with support, affirming that “Jamaicans always find strength, even in the storm.”

Spice also spoke up on the same day, offering a prayer on Instagram: “Lord Jesus, please cover my island. We can’t take no more tragedy.” Her heartfelt post quickly garnered thousands of comments and shares as Jamaicans worldwide joined her in seeking safety and strength. One fan posted, “God please turn Melissa around,” while another expressed gratitude, saying, “You always stand for Jamaica, Spice. We feel your love.”

When the storm hit, areas like St. Elizabeth and Manchester bore the brunt. Roads were washed away, homes were destroyed, and power lines were downed. The Prime Minister of Jamaica called the devastation “unprecedented” and noted that government agencies and international aid teams are working tirelessly to assess the damage and provide support to those in dire need.

The hurricane’s impact has been catastrophic throughout the Caribbean. Reports indicate that twenty lives were lost in Haiti due to overflowing rivers that devastated homes in Petit-Goave. Meanwhile, Cuba is bracing for the full impact of the storm, with forecasters warning of ongoing flooding and potential structural damage.

For artists like Shenseea and Spice, who proudly represent Jamaican culture on the global stage, this crisis feels deeply personal. They have both vowed to leverage their platforms to raise awareness and assist with rebuilding efforts once it’s safe to do so.
