An act of kindness from two police officers has made a world of difference for single mother Lillian Holt and her family.
After her teenage son called 911 over a missing PlayStation, what began as a routine response turned into a powerful display of community support.
A Mother’s Struggles

Lillian Holt, a resident of Warren, Michigan, and a hardworking single mom of two teenage boys, juggles the challenges of raising her family while working the midnight shift at a local factory.
Despite her efforts, financial strain had forced her to pawn her son’s PlayStation to cover essential expenses.
“I work from 9 to 5:30 in the morning, sometimes 6 o’clock,” Holt explained. “As a single mother, you’ve got to find a way. You can’t just walk away from it, but it can be tough.”
Earlier that week, Holt’s son, upset over the loss of his gaming console, called 911.
Officers Brian Stanko and Chad Rosso responded to the call and quickly realized that the family was facing more than just a minor dispute.
“These officers saw a family in need and decided to step up,” said Warren Police Chief. “They didn’t just respond—they went above and beyond.”
Turning Compassion Into Action
Recognizing the family’s hardships, the officers took matters into their own hands. Without alerting their department, they began making phone calls, reaching out to local businesses and community members.
“They didn’t have to do it,” Holt said gratefully. “But they did, and I’m incredibly appreciative.”
The officers donated furniture, purchased groceries out of their own pockets, and even secured a new bed for the family with the help of Walmart. Their generosity brought much-needed relief to Holt, who said the support has helped her regain stability.
A Department That Cares
While their efforts started quietly, the officers’ actions didn’t go unnoticed. The Warren Police Chief praised Stanko and Rosso, highlighting their commitment to the community.
“We’re here to help, and these officers took that to the next level. I couldn’t be prouder,” the chief stated.
Gratitude and Moving Forward
For Holt, the officers’ kindness is a reminder of the power of compassion.
“Sometimes we all need a little help,” she reflected. “I’m so thankful they were there when we needed them.”
This inspiring story shows how small acts of kindness can create a ripple effect, transforming lives and fostering stronger communities.
