Solange Knowles Revives Her Acclaimed Saint Heron Glassware Collection with New Colors

Solange Knowles has reintroduced her highly sought-after Saint Heron Glassware collection, this time featuring striking new colors.

The artist and designer, known for her multidisciplinary approach to art, has expanded the collection with fresh hues that are sure to captivate fans.

The original release of Saint Heron Glassware in June 2023 was met with overwhelming demand, selling out within just two hours.

Since then, fans have eagerly awaited a restock, and Knowles has delivered with a new edition of the collection, aptly named “A Small Matter.”

The updated glassware line, available exclusively through the MoMA Design Store, includes three distinct shapes: a goblet, a wine glass, and a cordial. The latest release introduces the colors topaz and onyx, offering a unique twist on the collection’s original design. Prices for these exquisite pieces range from $41 to $45, with members of the New York-based museum receiving an additional 20% discount.

Crafted from lightweight borosilicate glass, each piece in the collection is inspired by Brutalist architecture and geometric motifs, creating a visually stunning and thought-provoking aesthetic. Saint Heron describes the glassware as embodying the intersection of art and design, particularly highlighting the contributions of Black culture to these fields.

“Saint Heron strives to deepen and expand artistic interest in the contributions of Blackness to objects, arts, and design,” the collection’s description reads. “The glassware continues Saint Heron’s response to our own meticulous interrogations—of space, and of self—as aesthetic-forward incarnations of intuition-led processes in small-scale object creation.”

Knowles’ journey into glassware design began in a glassblowing class in Florida, where she discovered her passion for the craft. The original handmade four-piece collection was priced between $37 and $45, making it an accessible entry into the world of high-art glassware.

While the latest collection is available exclusively at MoMA, Saint Heron has also partnered with other retailers. A separate set featuring amber shades is currently available at Blackman Cruz, with individual pieces starting at $129.

Despite the high demand, most of the glassware has already sold out on the Saint Heron website, though those interested can explore more about Knowles’ creative process on the platform.

According to Saint Heron:

“Each piece transmutes aesthetically sensitive-yet-bold sculptural qualities and geometric motifs into visual statements that foster natural interpretation, perception, and engagement. To sit with and hold their form, weight, beauty, and force is to witness dynamic stillness in uniquely varied textures, silhouettes, color palettes, and transparency and opacity ranges.”

The latest move reflects Solange Knowles’ continued influence in the world of art and design, seamlessly blending cultural reflection with functional artistry.
