After Tyrese took to Instagram with a lengthy, dramatic plea for fans to help him reach Mary J. Blige, folks quickly dug up an old clip that might explain why she’s been ghosting him. And oh, it’s spicy.
Tyrese Gibson hit the ‘Gram this weekend with an emotional, public plea that instantly had folks raising eyebrows and pulling receipts.
On Sunday, July 21, the R&B singer and actor posted a heartfelt message on Instagram, accompanied by a photo of none other than the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul herself, Mary J. Blige. But it wasn’t just a fan post. No, Tyrese was begging fans to help him get in contact with Mary. He claimed he had been trying to reach her for two whole weeks with no success, stating that he didn’t have her number, email, or any other direct contact information. Now, he’s turning to the internet to play matchmaker. Or messenger.
“Can someone please help me to get a hold and reach Mary J. Blige?” Tyrese wrote. “I really didn’t want to post this, but I’m really trying to reach my Capricorn queen… I have something so, so very special for us.”
Shortly after his post went viral, social media detectives did what they do best. They pulled up an old video of Tyrese and Mary J. Blige from her 50th birthday party.

In the now-resurfaced clip, Tyrese is seen trying to pose for a photo with Mary. All good, right? But then he reaches down and tries to touch her bare thigh. Mary, not missing a beat, immediately slaps his hand away and hits him with the classic warning:
“Aye, aye, aye, n—a.”
Mary J. wasn’t here for it, and fans are now speculating that this moment might explain why she’s been keeping her distance ever since.
On X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram, fans flooded the comments with reactions:
“So THIS is why she ain’t texting back.”
“She told you with her whole body language not to touch her.”
“Tyrese had the audacity to try again publicly? Baby, no.”
“Mary J. Blige BEEN blocking bad energy since ‘Real Love.'”
Some users even pointed out that Tyrese’s public plea felt more like a guilt trip than a genuine gesture, with one fan writing, “You violated a boundary once, now you’re trying to use the internet to emotionally manipulate her into a convo? Nah.”
Tyrese hasn’t addressed the resurfaced clip yet, and Mary J. Blige has remained silent.
