The Kennesaw State University (KSU) campus was shaken by a tragic incident when Alasia Franklin, a promising student with dreams of becoming a nurse, was shot dead at the Austin Residence Complex.

The horrifying event unfolded on Saturday, May 18, 2024, as Anthony Harrison, a fellow student and friend of Franklin’s, recounted waking up to the sound of gunshots echoing through the campus.

Rushing to the scene, he discovered the lifeless body of his friend and immediately dialed 911, overwhelmed by the devastating sight.

Alasia Franklin’s vibrant personality and dedication to advocacy had left a lasting impression on those who knew her.

Anthony, who had worked closely with her in student government, described her as determined and compassionate, always willing to stand up for those in need.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting are still under investigation by university officials and law enforcement.

However, a suspect, identified as 21-year-old Samuel Harris, has been apprehended and charged with murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

Alasia’s impact on the KSU community was profound. She was actively involved in various organizations on campus, including the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW) and the Integrated Health Science Club, which she founded.

Her dedication and positivity had touched the lives of many.

KSU President Kathy S. Schwaig expressed condolences to Franklin’s family and friends, acknowledging the profound loss that the university community now faces.

As the investigation continues, the campus mourns the loss of a promising young student whose bright future was tragically cut short.
