Two young women from Philadelphia were brought to tears this past weekend after receiving a surprise gift for their academic excellence: brand-new cars, designer bags, and city-wide praise — thanks to a community leader, Tone Po.
Shanirah and Abani, the two Philadelphia students who achieved four consecutive years of straight A’s, were honored in an emotional celebration organized by Tone Po (@tonepo5 on Instagram), a local figure known for his dedication to youth empowerment and community service.
According to Mr Philadelphia, a popular figure who champions youth development in the Philly area, the event took place outside a popular spot in Philadelphia, symbolically reclaiming a space often associated with hardship to celebrate Black excellence and resilience.
In a video posted by Mr. Philadelphia (@mrphiladelphia215 and @motivateyouth215), the two young women can be seen in a photo flaunting their car keys, showing them to the cameras.
The moment was full of raw emotion — with the teens and their mothers shedding tears of joy, according to Mr Philadelphia.
“We talking about real balling — not the kind y’all talking about. We talking about education, excellence, brilliance, resilience, young leaders,” said Mr. Philadelphia in the video posted on March 31, 2025.
Tone Po partnered with Auto Brokers LLC, the dealership that provided the vehicles, complete with warranties and inspection stickers. The initiative was part of a larger message: to spotlight youth who are staying focused, excelling academically, and refusing to be defined by the negative headlines that often dominate the news about Philadelphia.

The girls’ commitment to their studies and their character has become a shining example of what is possible with discipline, family support, and community love.
“They’re not out here fighting. They’re not out here cursing or being disrespectful. They’re listening to their moms, they’re staying focused, and now — they got the keys,” said Mr. Philadelphia.
In a city often plagued by stories of violence and loss, this powerful act of recognition underscores a deeper truth: Philadelphia’s youth are not just surviving — they’re thriving.
Tone Po has garnered widespread praise online for his commitment to uplifting the next generation, and many are calling for more coverage of these positive milestones.
