Samantha Lee’s ex-husband, Tyrese Gibson, has been sentenced to jail time after failing to make child support payments for their daughter’s upkeep.
Tyrese, who shares her with ex-wife Samantha Lee, was in court on Monday, and Judge Kevin Farmer, who presided over the case in Fulton County, found him in contempt of court and had him escorted out after he failed to pay the $10,000 child support fee, which he was supposed to start paying last April.
The news comes soon after Tyrese predicted that he might be arrested and described Samantha as “goofy.”
Gibson and Lee’s legal drama has been playing out in court for some time.
The former couple married in 2017 in an intimate Valentine’s Day-themed ceremony. Their relationship was further strengthened in 2018 when they welcomed their daughter, Soraya Lee Gibson.
In 2020, the 45-year-old singer and actor announced together with Samantha Lee that they had decided to separate after almost four years of marriage.
Although they stated that they “truly have so much love and respect for each other,” their divorce has not been easy.
In April 2021, Tyrese took to social media to express his frustrations with the legal proceedings, stating that he felt “attacked” and “alienated” in the courtroom. He has also been vocal about the financial aspects of the divorce, particularly child support.
On September 9, Tyrese was arrested in Fulton County after being held in contempt of the court for failing to pay child support he had been ordered by the law to pay.
Tyrese refused to pay because he felt he was being mistreated and tried to remove the judge from the case.
According to reports, Judge Farmer said Gibson could avoid jail if he paid $73,000, which included $7,500 in Lee’s attorney fees.
He was placed in handcuffs and taken out of the courtroom.
Tyrese Gibson was “temporarily detained” and has since been “released” after making arrangements to pay the debt.
