A Waffle House employee has reportedly lost her job after being fired for participating in Latto’s viral “Brokey” Challenge while on duty.
The video, featuring employees participating in the viral TikTok “Brokey” challenge, led to her termination.
Last week, Latto issued a $10K “Brokey” Challenge prize to “apologize” for shading hard workers.
After some fans felt personally attacked by the lyrics to her viral hit “Brokey,” the rapper announced a challenge to counteract the backlash.
“I hate that y’all think I was calling hard workers brokeys,” Latto posted on X on Sunday, Sept. 15. “So I got $10k for whoever makes the best video at their job to brokey & I’ll fly u out to be in the music video…no mo waiting til ur bday to go outta town. Tag me & hashtag #Brokey so I can see them all.”
Elsewhere, someone joked, “This gon get people fired, and then they’ll be #brokey fr. But for $10K, I might have to do a little sum on that lunch break, okay?”
Unfortunately, that situation has become a reality for a Waffle House employee who claims she was fired because she and her colleagues recorded their “Brokey” challenge video while working their shift.
The employee, who goes by the name @yadirajramirez on TikTok, was caught on camera performing the dance moves from Latto’s popular song “Brokey” while wearing her Waffle House uniform.
A day after the video went viral, @yadirajramirez informed her followers that she had been fired and placed on the EFR list, so she couldn’t be rehired.
The incident has sparked a debate about the decision of the restaurant chain’s management.
“Sis, you got comfy making waffles for 6 years! God is telling you it’s time to go higher. All the best hun,” one social media user wrote.
Another added, “Waffle House got some nerve tryna all of a sudden have morals.”
Another person wrote, “Waffle House acting like they have morals… when they are known for starting more fights than prison yards in this country.”
