‘We’re Hurting’: Heartbroken Woman Gets Emotional Over Deadly South Carolina Bar Shooting Incident

by Gee NY

What began as a joyful Saturday night reunion in Beaufort County, South Carolina, ended in heartbreak and chaos when gunfire erupted outside Willie’s Bar and Grill.

The shooting incident has left four people dead and at least twenty others injured.

For many in the Lowcountry, Willie’s isn’t just a bar. It’s a community hub, a place where laughter, music, and fellowship come together. But in the early hours of Sunday morning, that sense of safety shattered.

A Night Meant for Celebration Turns Tragic

The evening was supposed to be a celebration — a Battery Creek High School alumni weekend, bringing together old friends and classmates. Owner Willie Turral said the night was “all love” until gunshots tore through the crowd just before 1:00 a.m.

“I heard the shots and it was scary from the inside,” Turral said, his voice breaking. “You could tell from the rapid succession — it wasn’t a standard weapon. You saw people giving CPR, you saw people picking people up, people crying. People care. This community didn’t do this — a person did this.”

Authorities say hundreds of people were in and around the restaurant at the time. When the shots rang out, terrified guests ran for cover, some into nearby businesses and parking lots. First responders arrived to a chaotic scene, rushing victims to local hospitals as witnesses clung to each other in disbelief.

A Bar Known for Its Warmth and Welcoming Vibe

Jindia Blount says she could have been caught up in the shooting because she is a regular at Willie’s.

For regulars like Jindia Blount, Willie’s Bar and Grill was never a place where anyone felt unsafe.

“I would have never expected anything like that to take place here,” Blount told WTOC. “The vibe that’s here is totally opposite — it’s laid back, fun, and family-like. You don’t feel like you need to keep your head on a swivel.”

Blount described the owner, Turral, as “the heart of the community” — a man deeply involved in neighborhood projects and known for lending a hand whenever someone was in need.

“Willie’s isn’t just a bar,” she said. “It’s a place where people come together. He’s not just a business owner — he’s part of us.”

A Community in Mourning

By sunrise, the grief had spread far beyond the walls of Willie’s. Families began gathering outside the bar, lighting candles and praying for those who didn’t make it home.

“I have people that I would consider family who lost their lives last night,” Turral said. “This is home for me. It’s tough.”

Sheriff’s deputies confirmed that persons of interest are being questioned, though no arrests had been announced as of Sunday afternoon. The names of the victims have not yet been released.

As the investigation continues, residents are left to confront a painful reality — that even close-knit communities are not immune to senseless violence.

Healing Amid Heartbreak

Turral, visibly shaken but resolute, vowed to stay present for those grieving.

“Nothing you can do to solve when somebody’s kid don’t come home,” he said quietly. “That’s rough. But we’ll be here with you — that’s all we can promise. We’ll be here with you.”

For now, the community is doing what it does best: showing up for one another. A candlelight vigil is being organized outside Willie’s to honor the victims and support their families.

Blount, like so many others, says she’ll return — not out of denial, but out of defiance.

“We’re hurting,” she said, “but we’re not giving up on each other.”
