In a heartfelt Instagram video that’s resonating with thousands online, coach, author, and speaker Wemi Opakunle is encouraging her audience to believe in one timeless truth: “What is yours is yours.”
The motivational post, part of her ongoing series aimed at helping individuals align with purpose, recounts a powerful story from her mother’s early career in broadcasting.
In it, Opakunle describes a moment when her mother was subjected to open hostility during a job interview—an attack intended to discourage her from advancing into television after years in radio.
“Before my mother could even open her mouth to share her experience,” Wemi recalled, “a woman on the interview panel looked at her and said, ‘You are not qualified. This job is not for you. You will not get the job.’”
Despite the attempted sabotage, Opakunle’s mother impressed the rest of the executive panel and was ultimately offered the position—launching a remarkable career that culminated in her becoming a Controller of Programs at one of Nigeria’s top television broadcasting corporations.
“She was so good at her job… the promotions just kept coming,” Opakunle said. “She left the company at the top of her game.”
The video draws a broader lesson about divine timing, resilience, and trusting in what’s meant for you, especially in the face of opposition or doubt.
“You will come across two groups of people,” she explained. “Destiny breakers, and destiny makers. Both are there to prove that what is yours is yours.”
