Karen Rupert Toliver Tapped as Sony Animation’s New SVP Development | @SonyAnimation

Former FoxMovies animation executive, Karen Rupert Toliver has been recruited by Sony Pictures Animation as their new SVP Development.

At Fox Movies, Toliver helped spearhead development of Ferdinand, the story of a giant bull with a big heart, which is slated to hit theaters nationwide December 13th. Toliver also held a vital role in the production of Fox’s Rio franchise as well as the last three Ice Age movies, grossing more than $3 billion at the global box office.

“As we build Sony Pictures Animation into a forward-looking studio we feel very fortunate to have Karen join our leadership team,”Kristine Belson, president of Sony Pictures Animation tells Deadline, “Her experience, intelligence, and excellent taste will be a tremendous advantage to achieving our ambitious, creative goals.”

According to Deadline, Sony Animation most recently released The Star, which brought in $9.8 million on its opening weekend and has grossed $25.1 million worldwide to date.

In July, 2017, Sony Animation released The Emoji Movie, which grossed $216.8 million worldwide. Their next film will be Hotel Transylvania 3, set to be released the summer of 2018, as well as the animated Spider-Man movie in the last quarter of 2018.
