Nearly 11 years after Kierra Stubbs vanished in Birmingham, Alabama, authorities continue to search for answers in her unsolved disappearance.
Stubbs, a 23-year-old mother of two, was last seen on April 24, 2014. Despite extensive investigations, her family is still searching for justice.
On Jan. 16 and 17, 2025, the Birmingham Police Department (BPD) executed a search warrant at Stubbs’ former residence. In collaboration with the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, investigators dug up the yard and moved a storage shed, hoping to find her remains. However, the search yielded no evidence.
“During the search, we did not find human remains,” Officer Truman Fitzgerald confirmed in a press release. “We cannot begin to imagine the challenges and anguish that Kierra’s family has faced over the past 10-plus years.”
Lead Detective Jonathan Ross, who has been on the case since 2019, is determined to uncover the truth.
“We are committed to taking whatever measures are necessary to solve this case,” Fitzgerald added.
The Day Kierra Disappeared

Stubbs’ disappearance began with an offer of assistance. Her brother drove her to a Boost Mobile store in Birmingham’s Five Points West neighborhood to meet a man she already knew. He had offered to help fix her car brakes.
Witnesses reported seeing Stubbs enter a burgundy 2012 Chrysler 200 with the man. Her brother waited for her at the store for an hour, but she never returned. The man, later identified and questioned by authorities, was not arrested, leaving her family with more questions than answers.
Family’s Plea for Justice
Stubbs’ family has long criticized the investigation’s delays. Her aunt, Shonte Stubbs, expressed frustration over the years of uncertainty. “This is one of the houses we searched when she first went missing, and it was nothing. The stuff they’re doing now, they could have done 10 years ago,” she told WBRC 6.
Her grandmother, Ora Stubbs, spoke out in 2022, saying:
“For us to go through this hell for eight years and no justice… The justice system has failed us. Kierra needs justice. We need justice. Her children need justice.”
Stubbs was described as a loving mother who cherished her family.
“She was a sweet, funny, loving person. She loved her family. She loved her kids. That’s all she wanted to do—work and spend time with her family,” her aunt told AL.com.
