Torrei Hart is smart, successful and happens to be the ex-wife of one of the most famous comedians in history. But it hasnât always been easy. Dealing with her husbandâs alleged infidelity tore her family apart. She was then forced to watch Kevin Hart move on and start a family with his alleged mistress.
During an interview with Mara the Hip-Hop Socialite, she opened up about her new blended family as well as her suicidal thoughts when her family was shattered to pieces.
On Her Blended Family:
âHereâs the thing, I would just have to say people have to understand at the end of the day, youâre going to be family. I look at it like this â my kids, Kevin and Enikoâs baby, Kenzo, who I just actually had the chance to meet last week [the week before last], and heâs so beautiful! He melted my little heart; he really melted my heart. So thatâs number one, babies always bring joy. Number two, heâs now related to my kids, so when I see that my kids have a sibling and itâs family, listen, at the end of the day, things happen. What happened was in the past; Iâm so far removed from what happened years ago; Iâve done too much to get in a happy place to let anything steal my joy. So I would have to say in life, nothing is permanent â we donât know. Tomorrow, you know, you could be in love with somebody, and they can walk out of your life, and you donât know, they couldâve been doing something for years while you thought you had the perfect relationship. You canât get caught up in stuff â nothing is permanent, and that has taught me.â
On The MoâNique/Netflix Boycott:
âI just feel like number one, you canât boycott Netflix â you just canât. I love MoâNique to death, and let me say this â I agree with what she said, but I donât agree with her approach. Netflix and chill, if you get rid of Netflix and chill, then youâre getting rid of 90% of people who go on dates, okay, so you canât do that. But I do agree with her in the sense of whereâs the equality? Where is that? If I was MoâNique, I wouldâve just took the money, smashed my special, and then showed them why they shouldâve given me that because $500,000, you talking about â to me, Iâll take the $500,000. I can use that $500,000 â I need it. So Iâm not going to turn that down especially for doing something I love. Itâs not like they offered her $5,000 â $500,000 is still a lot of money considering, which you said, she has been off the radar. So get yourself back on the radar, and then go back and shoot another special, and then make the mint, you know. But I definitely will say, one of my favorite shows Iâm watch right now on Netflix is âSeven Secondsâ, so I definitely cannot boycott Netflix. I just canât do it, I canât.
And I would say Netflix is also giving a lot of Black people opportunities. Thereâs a lot of Black actors working and getting work because of Netflix. One of my films that I recently did is about to be on Netflix, so I definitely have to say Iâm not mad at Netflix. I just think, you know, next time, just try a different approach. Thatâs all I would say for MoâNique.â
On Battling Suicidal Thoughts:
âI choose to not stay in that space, but of course Iâve had dark hours and dark moments like I think everybody, Iâm human. These were moments like right around where, of course, when Kevin went public with Eniko at the time. You know, it was hard for me to see that because, you know, that was my husband, that was my family, and to see him move on and so publicly, that was hard for me. So there were days I didnât want to get out of bed, there were days when I didnât want to go on and I was like well what do I need to live for? And of course in those moments, I would get calls from my mother, I would get calls from my sister, and they would be like, Torrei, you have kids to live for. You have stuff to look forward to. Trust me, this is nothing. And my mother has been through a lot in life as well, and she told me you are so young, youâll have so much more, and I look back at those moments now, like dag, did I really think that life was over? Like, oh God, no. Itâs so much more that Iâm so excited about the future â just seeing my kids grow, and Iâve talked to my kids about this.â
