Shalon Jackson said the comedian cares more about her ‘Daddy’ husband, Sidney Hicks, over him in response to her remarks about reconciling.
Mo’Nique’s eldest son, Shalon, criticized her for adding a false narrative, regarding their relationship after her Club Shay Shay interview.
At one point, the 56-year-old comedian admitted that she was not the best mother to Shalon. She disclosed that she sacrificed being present and nurturing to provide him with opportunities she did not have growing up.
“That’s something that we as parents have to say, ‘Listen, I’ve done what I can do. I’ve taken accountability for it. Now it’s up to you,” Mo’Nique added.
Although she believed that their relationship would heal with time, her son felt different about her recollection of their ‘antagonized’ relationship.
Shalon, who is also a standup comic, broke his silence on TikTok. The almost 10-minute video would be the first time he has explicitly addressed his ‘relationship’ with his mother.
“I felt the need to make this video just to provide some context to his fan’s narrative of her praying to the universe to reconcile our relationship,” he began in the nine-minute post.
Shalon stated that Mo’Nique had told him she was uninterested in being his mother. He also revealed that his mother lacked “humility, compassion, and consideration” and was only willing to accept her responsibilities after marrying her husband.
The comedienne wasted little time responding with her husband Sidney Hicks, by her side.
“There are some people who are saying ‘you should be ashamed of your mothering skills. Let’s let it play out. The same ones who said to me I was crazy and deranged, we watched it play out. So, just like with my son, we’ll watch this play out,” she started.
She also addresses where her son’s disparaging remarks about her husband.
“When you say ‘her daddy, her daddy,’ that’s when mommy is going to say stop playing. You know this has been ‘Uncle Sid’ your whole life. He knew you before you knew you. So, for you to say her ‘three sons,’ you’re absolutely right. He has three sons. He cannot claim you as his son because he has always been ‘Uncle Sid’, and he knows your daddy very well.”
Hicks hopped in, challenging Shalon’s claims that they have not been there for him in times of need. He gave examples of their financial support, including when they bought stuff for the 31-year-old’s baby and helped with down payments on his cars.
