Megan Thee Stallion has addressed the ongoing speculation surrounding her relationship with fellow rapper Nicki Minaj. Despite their highly publicized rap beef earlier this year, Megan insists that she has no idea what the issue is between them.
Minaj and Megan’s first public interaction occurred during an Instagram Live session in July 2019, when Megan, then a rising Houston talent, expressed her admiration for Minaj, now 41.
“We are gagging right now; we are dead. B—h, we love you! Since 2008, when I was in 8th grade, and I could listen to you,” Meg said during the live stream.
The session began their friendship, culminating in their collaborative hit “Hot Girl Summer,” which peaked at No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100.
In August 2020, Meg and Cardi B, Nicki Minaj’s nemesis, teamed up for “WAP.” The raunchy collaboration made history as the first female rap collaboration to debut at number one on the Billboard Hot 100.
Megan spoke with Chicago’s 107.5 WGCI, revealing that she did not discuss working with Cardi with Nicki but that her relationship with Minaj should not change due to “Hot Girl Summer.”
More than four years later, things have gone wrong as Nicki Minaj and Megan Thee Stallion are entrenched in a scathing feud.
On Wednesday (Sep. 4), Megan Thee Stallion sat down for an interview with Billboard. Briefly, she touched on her ongoing feud with Nicki Minaj.
Megan’s January single “Hiss” appears to be a dig at Minaj and her husband, Kenneth Petty, a registered sex offender. Minaj released “Big Foot” a few days later, seemingly mocking Megan for being shot by rapper Tory Lanez in 2020.
In the wake of the shots she took at Minaj on her 2024 single “Hiss,” Megan was asked whether there was any chance of a reconciliation.
“I still, to this day, don’t know what the problem is,” Meg said. “I don’t even know what could be reconciled because I, to this day, don’t know what the problem is.”
For now, it is unclear whether the two rap queens will mend fences or continue to be at odds.
