Social media star Alysha Burney has passed away while on a birthday trip to Mexico.
Burney, a well-known YouTuber and content creator, died in her sleep on March 2, the night before her 25th birthday, her brother Charles Burney confirmed.
Burney had amassed a following of over five million across various social media platforms, including YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok, where she was recognized for her engaging lifestyle videos, comedic skits, and vlogs. Her unexpected passing has left fans and loved ones mourning the loss of a rising creative talent.
According to her family, Burney suffered a fatal asthma attack while asleep. In a statement to FOX4, Charles Burney addressed speculation surrounding her passing, urging the public not to believe misinformation.
“There’s a spread of misinformation online, stating different things based on speculation,” he said. “These sources lack credibility and should not be believed. My sister did not engage in environments that would lead to such situations.”
He described her as a “self-loving and happy individual” who was excited about her future.
“She was in Mexico to celebrate her birthday. She was a very classy young woman,” he added.
Burney was also an entrepreneur, having founded ABurney Productions, a production company that had already launched its first film, with several more in development.
At the age of 19, she was selected to audition for the comedy improv show Wild’N Out, an opportunity that, despite not securing a role, fueled her drive for success in the entertainment industry.
“Her lifelong goal was to be a writer and a director,” Charles Burney shared. “Another goal she had was to return to Kansas City, open a production studio, and help other young creatives from Kansas City get to where she was.” He added, “She was not selfish with her knowledge and was a very open book about her journey. She will always be dearly loved, and her legacy will live on forever.”
Burney had earned a Bachelor of Science in Digital Media Production and was actively pursuing a graduate degree. Fans and friends have taken to social media to express their condolences, with many describing her as an inspiration.
