Conservative commentator Candace Owens has publicly rebuked President Donald Trump, stating that she feels “embarrassed” for encouraging Americans to support him during his 2024 electioneering campaign.
Her pointed comments came during a recent appearance on Piers Morgan Uncensored, as fallout continues from Trump’s controversial military action targeting Iran’s nuclear facilities.
Owens, once a staunch supporter of the President and a leading voice in the MAGA movement, told Morgan that while she does not regret voting for Trump over Democrat Kamala Harris, she no longer feels he represents the leader she once championed.
“I want to be clear. I don’t regret voting for Donald Trump above Kamala… or Joe Biden,” Owens said. “But what I will say is that he’s been a chronic disappointment and I feel embarrassed that I told people to go vote for him because this wasn’t going to happen—and it is happening.”
Owens was referring to Trump’s recent decision to carry out targeted strikes on Iran in response to escalating tensions between Israel and the Iranian regime. The move has triggered a sharp divide within the Republican Party, reigniting debate over America’s role in foreign wars.
GOP Rift Widens
President Trump’s hawkish move has received praise from establishment conservatives like former U.N. ambassador John Bolton and former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, both of whom have long advocated for aggressive foreign policy. In contrast, voices like Steve Bannon and Tucker Carlson—both previously aligned with Trump—have condemned the action as a betrayal of Trump’s “America First” promise to end costly foreign entanglements.
Owens now appears to align more closely with the anti-interventionist camp.
“This is not the candidate that I voted for,” she said bluntly, indicating that the Trump administration’s recent actions have left her unsure of the future of American conservatism. “I just think that the picture of politics in America is going to look very differently because of his actions.”
Changing Tides on the Right
Owens’ public break with Trump reflects a growing sentiment among younger conservatives who once helped fuel Trump’s political base.
Her influence—particularly among Gen Z and millennial Republicans—makes her comments significant as the party heads toward a turbulent election season.
While Owens stopped short of definitively severing ties with Trump, her latest remarks and similar ones in the past signal a critical turning point in the political realignment taking place within the GOP.
If Owens’ dissatisfaction resonates with Trump’s remaining base, it could signal deeper fractures ahead.
