Empire star Serayah shared intimate details about the birth of her first child with fiancé Joey Bada$$. Just two months after welcoming her baby boy in June 2025, the actress is opening up about a delivery that took an unexpected turn, leaving her “overwhelmed with emotion.”
In a candid Snapchat video titled “My Pregnancy Story Pt. 1,” Serayah revealed that she had a very specific birth plan: a natural water birth. She was “very determined” to avoid surgery, even after discovering her son was in a breech position. “I did everything under the freaking umbrella that I could to naturally turn my son,” she explained, detailing her efforts to ensure a vaginal delivery.
However, fate had a different plan. A last-minute ultrasound delivered shocking news: her baby’s umbilical cord was wrapped around his body twice. “Immediately, I was overwhelmed with emotion and just started crying,” Serayah confessed. “I knew that this meant I was having a cesarean.”

The thought of a C-section was terrifying for her. “Now, let’s talk about cesarean. Cesarean was easily a very scary thing for me. I did not want to do that. I never wanted to embark upon a journey of cesarean,” she shared. Serayah emphasized her deep desire to experience a natural birth, to “bring my baby into this world with my hands” and have immediate skin-to-skin contact. The idea of undergoing surgery, something she’d never experienced before, sounded incredibly daunting.

Despite her fears, the couple welcomed their baby boy in June 2025. Serayah recently gave fans a glimpse of her little one in a Snapchat post, showing his tiny leg as he lay on her. The actress also shared a heartfelt “Life Lately Dump” on Instagram, reflecting on her postpartum journey. “2 months postpartum.. Wowww where do I begin??” her caption started. “First, I want to thank everyone who’s reached out to me, congratulated me, and sent me love and support during this new chapter.”
Serayah and Joey Bada$$ first confirmed their pregnancy back in February and revealed their baby’s sex in May, the same month they announced their engagement. Their journey to parenthood has been a public one, filled with joy, anticipation, and now, a raw and honest look at the unexpected challenges of childbirth.
