Sha’Carri Richardson is speaking out for the first time since her arrest for a dispute with her boyfriend, Christian Coleman, at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. After a video of the incident went viral, the track star posted a video on social media, where she apologized for her actions and promised to be a better person.
On Sunday, July 27, Richardson was arrested and booked into the Scott County jail in Des Moines for 4th-degree domestic assault. She was held for about 19 hours before being released. The arrest came after a heated dispute with her boyfriend turned physical, with surveillance video showing Richardson shoving Coleman several times.
The video, which was obtained and published by TMZ, shows the volatile moments between the couple. Richardson is seen getting angry with Coleman and grabbing his bag before getting in his face. Coleman tried to walk away, but Richardson continued to engage with him, shoving him into a wall. When he tried to walk away again, she forcefully pushed him a second time behind a pillar. Eventually, it appeared she threw an item at him before the two continued to argue.
Coleman, who has been dating Richardson for over two years, was interviewed by police at the airport but declined to elaborate on what happened, stating that “nothing happened” and “anything physical had occurred.” He also refused to provide his name or identification and didn’t want to participate any further in the investigation.
Richardson, on the other hand, is taking a different approach. She posted a video on social media where she addressed the incident, saying, “Hey y’all, it’s Sha’Carri and more than anything, definitely, a lot of self-reflection. A lot of understanding of not only putting myself in a compromising situation with somebody that I have deep care and appreciation for. I hold myself accountable.” She also promised to be “more” for herself, her family, and her fans.
It seems that Sha’Carri is ready to put this incident behind her and get back to what she does best: running.
