Kamala Harris Cancels California Book Tour Stops Amid Questions Over Security Costs

by Xara Aziz

Several California appearances on the book tour for former Vice President Kamala Harris have been abruptly canceled, raising questions about scheduling conflicts and the security arrangements surrounding her nationwide promotion.

Ticketing platform Ticketmaster confirmed Tuesday that three scheduled events billed as “A Conversation with Kamala Harris” would no longer take place. The canceled appearances included an April 4 event at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, an April 6 stop at San Diego Civic Theatre in San Diego, and an April 10 event at Honda Center in Anaheim. According to the Ticketmaster notice, the cancellations were due to a “scheduling conflict,” and ticketholders will receive full refunds.

The events were part of a promotional tour for Harris’s new memoir, 107 Days, which recounts her brief 2024 presidential campaign after then-President Joe Biden withdrew from the race against Donald Trump.

Harris’s most recent appearance occurred on March 3 in Oakland. That stop came amid renewed scrutiny over the security arrangements accompanying the former vice president during her tour. According to reporting by KCRA 3, California taxpayers have been covering the costs of her security detail while she travels to promote the book, including appearances outside the state and abroad.

Multiple sources familiar with the arrangements, who were not authorized to speak publicly about security matters, told KCRA 3 that dozens of officers from the California Highway Patrol have accompanied Harris to tour stops. The officers reportedly traveled with her to various appearances as part of a protective detail.

State officials have declined to specify how many officers are assigned to Harris, how long the security arrangement will remain in place, or how much taxpayer funding is being used to support the effort. Questions also remain about whether Harris or her campaign-affiliated entities are reimbursing the state for any of the travel costs.

A spokesperson for Harris did not respond to requests for comment regarding the cancellations or the security expenses.

Despite the canceled California appearances, Harris’s tour has included international stops, including events in London and Ontario, according to the book’s promotional website, suggesting that the memoir rollout continues even as questions linger over the logistics surrounding it.
