Journalist Miana Massey is opening up about the emotional impact of losing her dream job in television news, saying the experience felt like losing part of her identity.
“One day, I was anchoring the news in Baltimore, my hometown. I had my dream career,” Massey said in a video posted on Instagram. “And the next day, I didn’t.”
Massey recently shared a personal update nearly a year after leaving a news anchor position in Baltimore, describing the sudden career change and the challenges she faced afterwards.

A Dream Job in Her Hometown
For Massey, working as a news anchor in Baltimore represented a lifelong goal. She said delivering the news in the community that raised her carried deep meaning.
“Working in Baltimore was my greatest honor,” she said. “Being on that desk every Saturday and Sunday morning, telling our stories, serving the community that raised me — it meant so much.”
The unexpected end of that chapter left her grappling with disappointment and uncertainty.
“For a long time I really didn’t know what to say,” she said. “It felt like disappointing my family, my city, and everyone who had been so supportive and proud.”
A Year of Change
Over the past year, Massey said she focused on healing and rebuilding after the loss of her job.
The period included searching for new opportunities, navigating a breakup and moving to a different city.
She said she eventually found a new journalism role in Charlotte, where she has lived for about six months.
“I’m still a journalist. I’m still Miana,” she said. “I’m just evolving. I’m becoming.”
Lessons From a Difficult Transition
Massey said the experience taught her that success and career progress do not always follow a planned path.
“I’ve learned that growth doesn’t always look the way you planned it,” she said. “There’s more to life than just success, accomplishments and a title.”
She also credited family, friends and supporters online with helping her through the transition.
“I’ve seen the messages. I’ve seen the comments,” she said. “I’m just so grateful and appreciative.”
Looking Ahead
Now settled in Charlotte, Massey said she feels she is finally reconnecting with herself and is ready to share more about her life and career journey.
“Finally, I feel like I’m getting back to myself,” she said. “I feel like I’m getting back to Miana.”
