The social media influencer and chef whose popular sauce, which resembles the color of the antacid Pepto Bismol, has caught the attention of retail giant, Walmart.
The multinational corporation announced that Chef Pii’s creation, appropriately called “Pink Sauce” would be sold in its stores after the mysterious concoction went viral after debuting last June.
In a TikTok video, the Miami-based private chef is seen dipping a fried chicken tender into the sauce before taking a huge bite. She then begins dancing in enjoyment. The sauce is made to be paired with chicken wings, sandwiches, hamburgers, hot dogs, pizza, crudité, egg rolls, grilled meats, gyros, veggies and other delicacies.
As of date, the #pinksauce hashtag has drawn in about 644 million views on TikTok alone. The viral sensation allowed the chef to collaborate with Dave’s Gourmet, which sells the sauce to a variety of distributors. The sauce will be sold in more than 4,000 Walmart locations and will be available on her website in July.
The popular sweet & tangy sauce gains it color from pitaya (better known as dragon fruit) and other spices. According to its website, the ingredients include dragon fruit puree, coconut cream, water, sugar, distilled white vinegar, ranch flavor, onion powder and other natural ingredients.
Despite the pink sauce’s popularity, it suffered setbacks after Chef Pii attempted to sell the sauce on her own for $20. Some customers complained about “misprinted nutrition labels, inconsistent product coloring, poor packaging that resulted in leaking bottles, as well as a lack of proper storage instructions despite milk being listed as an ingredient,” according to Yahoo Life.
Before partnering with Dave’s Gourmet, the food company said in a press release that “a lack of commercial food production knowledge led to significant obstacles,” adding that “production was paused” briefly.
But now that they are involved, they have ensured that the sauce will follow the “required food safety manufacturing guidelines as well as selling the product through retail, food service and e-commerce channels in the U.S. and other countries,” adding that “each flavor is versatile making the entire creamy hot sauce line the perfect choice for any meal of the day.”
Pink Sauce is now available in 13-ounce bottles for $7.78.
